With all of the noise in today’s market place, how do you break through and attract the right target audience? In order for any business to reach their marketing goals, it is important that you know your target audience inside and out. Conducting market research and analysis is essential to understanding and then attracting the right target audience. The market research must be as in-depth as possible providing you with all the data you need to reach your target audience effectively. Small businesses effectively compete with large companies by targeting a niche market.
Don’t Try To Be the Jack Of All Trades
Don’t try to reach a broad audience. Instead, focus in on your primary market with a specific audience that you want to reach out to and an audience that is appropriate for your industry. You need to always identify who your ideal consumer is and once you chosen who you want that to be you are then able to focus your marketing efforts on that ideal consumer.
Who are your current consumers?
Conduct market research and analysis by looking at your current customer base. Who are your current customers and why do they buy from you? Look for similar characteristics and interests then determine which ones bring in the most business. Once you have established your current consumer base, it is very likely that other people like them are also going to benefit from your product or service.
Know Your Competitors
Who are your competitors targeting? Who are their current customers? Once you have determined who your competitors are targeting, determine if it is possible to beat them in that marketplace or find a niche market that they are overlooking. By conducting this market research and analysis you are going to be able to break through the noise and attract the right target audience for your business.
Demographics
Who will benefit from your product or service? Is a 60 year old male going to benefit from your product or service over a 25 year old woman? Establish not only who has a need for your product or service, but also who is most likely to buy it. Remember to consider industry, management level, gender, age, location, income level, occupation, along with several other important factors when identifying your target audience.
Identify Points of Difference
What benefits and differentiators do you bring to the table that make you stand out from the crowd? What makes you unique? Establishing points of differentiation is key when looking to attract the right target audience. Knowing your own business goals and mission inside and out allows you to know what kind of audience you want to have and what you want them to get out of your services.
- Target a very specific audience instead of trying to reach a broad audience
- Know your current consumers and evaluate who is using your product or service and who is not
- Research your competitors to know who they are targeting
- Consider demographics from age to location when thinking of the right target audience you want to attract
- Identify what makes your business unique
